Further Notes: At this period the Clarendon Press produced prayer books for the London market in all shapes and sizes. The octavo and duodecimos are the most commonly found but other sizes are known. This form of miniature prayer book especially designed for a ladies’ purse and printed from tiny typeface is extremely rare This printing is not recorded in ESTC, the earliest printing traced by us in this format an Oxford printing of 1792. This example is unsophisticated, the binding being probably as originally sold. Overall this is a very nice example of this kind of ladies’ library item of the 18th century.
