DESCRIPTION: London, R Crowder, C ware and T Payne 1772. Small 12mo, pp201[1], bound in full modern calf and endpapers.


SECOND EDITION THUS, a very rare piracy of Urie’s Edinburgh edition of 1761, completely reset with different pagination. The imprint is probably false. The text itself originates in a set of small
volumes for children entitled ‘The World Displayed’, first issued by John Newbury between 1760 and 1761. The volumes are compiled by Christopher Smart, Oliver Goldsmith and Samuel Johnson, although authorship cannot be ascribed on any particular part.

This 1772 printing is recorded 2 copies UK libraries and 9 locations US. Sanine 14656.

SIZE: 165 x 100 mm

CONDITION: Text slightly browned at edges, marginal spotting and staining to a few pages.
Last 70 pages has minor and marginal pinhole worming in the top right corner - text not affected. Overall a good sound copy.
