Samuel Rogers 2 volumes 'Poems' and 'Italy' published in London, 1834-35, offered in fine English 'romantic' style bindings of the period.

DESCRIPTION: 2 volumes published London by T Cadell and E Moxon, 1834 and 1835
Two volumes, size 8 by 5.5 inches. Each volume has a general title pages for the 2 volumes followed by separate title pages for 'Poems' and 'Italy' the first dated 1834, the second dated 1835, with an engraved portrait frontispiece of Samuel Rogers in volume one, engraved vignettes in the text including many by J M W Turner.
This set is finely bound in contemporary 'romantic' style full green morocco, sides and spines richly gilt decorated in fine floral spray pattern.

FIRST COLLECTED EDITION OF THE POEMS OF SAMUEL ROGERS, uniting the two previously published editions OF ‘Poems’ and ‘Italy’ with their fine vignette illustrations. HALTON HOUSE COPY, with bookplates of Alfred de Rothschild who inherited the house in 1879 and proceeded to build up some of his famous collections of art and antiques there. It became a famous if much maligned place of social gatherings but after his death in 1918 house and contents were sold off. The present set of Rogers - a fashionable poet in Rothschild's lifetime -is typical of the high quality books he collected at Halton.

CONDITION: CONDITION: Pages have minor foxing only but negligible for this title which is rarely found totally clean. In essence a fine set.
