DESCRIPTION: Small octavo, pp [4], 192, [12] [*2, A-M8, N6], with woodcut device on title page and 4 large woodcut illustrations within the pagination, very light browning or waterstains only, generally a very clean copy throughout, bound in very neat 20th Century three quarter polished calf, spine gilt with raised bands, a fine, well bound, and attractive copy.

SECOND EDITION of Chacon's classic early study of the dining customs of the ancient Romans 'along with their food, drink, wine, guests, etiquette, table dressing and background music for eating , first published two years before in 1588. and the author's most celebrated work, often later reprinted.
