CGS0183 ![]() Click image to enlarge The Mohawk Indian Warrior with his Tomax, scalping knife published January 1759 DESCRIPTION: Engraving on paper by Anthony Walker [1726-1765]. A rare early depiction based upon a native subject brought to England probably in 1758 and depicted her in an illustration from the General Magazine of Arts and Sciences. Offered with the original letterpress description from the January issue describing him as 'Lately arrived from America...Warrior, one of General Johnson's Guards, who had distinguished himself at the Battle of Lake George [where General Johnson beta the French]...we imagine a Copper-plate Print of this extraordinary person will be agreeable.There follows a decription of the Mohawk Indians in general. It is rare to find a copy of this print with this letterpress description accompanying it. CONDITION: Minor staining to the inner gutter and spotting on the right inner gutter.
