Two city of London watercolours by the prolific Croydon artist 'E A Phipson' (1854-1931) Phipson produced a great number of views of ancient buildings, the most interesting which are in Croydon and the City of London.

There was a notable recent exhibition in Croydon of Phipson's works as well as a book published on his life and socialist writings.

These are two very good examples of his works showing an area of historic London that has undergone considerable historic change. The paintings exhibit small figures in his characteristic style.
